What will we dye?

• You can BYO item, see below for guidelines

• or purchase a pair of organic cotton socks on arrival for $11 each. We will have Small, Medium, and Large. The socks are natural-white cotton which are undyed, unbleached and free of toxic finishes. They are knit with USA grown organic cotton and made in America.

  • Note: Harvest and Mill, a California based brand, creates these socks, along with other unisex clothing pieces that are made responsibly in the US with natural materials.

  • The Organic White Shorts or Organic Crew Tee iwould also work as a BYO dye item. These items are also available for men. Any other items of theirs will be too large for our dye baths.

BYO Item

• Size: please make sure your garment or fabric is no larger then 20” X 25”, since our pots are not large!

• Material: Synthetic materials will not pickup color the same way natural materials do. I would also like to encourage everyone to move away from synthetic materials. Natural fibers along with natural colors benefit the body. Make sure your piece is made of cotton, linen, hemp, wool or silk. If you’re not sure, just give it a google search!

• Preparation: You will need to prepare your garment or fabric by scouring it prior to our gathering. Scouring will remove anything the fabric might have been sealed with and cleanse it.

  • To scour: simply simmer your item in a large pot on your stovetop with mild dish soap or laundry detergent for about an hour. Try to move your fabric around every 15 minutes or so in order to make sure it’s thoroughly scoured. Once completed, turn off your stove and let cool, then rinse to get as much soap out as possible and hang to dry.

Personal Materials

• For the short hike we advise bringing a hat, sunscreen, and a waterbottle

• We will provide all materials and instruction for foraging

• Please bring a plate and utensils for lunch, and a mug for dessert!
