What will we dye?
The plants in this gathering have all been harvested locally and are both native and invasive plants. We are working with native plants that grow in abundance and plants that have been introduced to our region that should be removed (invasives).
Materials include:
A 22” X 22” cotton bandana
Optional - Bring your own, see instructions below & add to your cart for checkout
Optional - Ready to dye items from our rack on site for purchase
What will wool processing include?
In small groups we will first learn how to use carders to brush out the wool to prepare for spinning. Then we will get practice using a drop spindle to make yarn. Leave with your own uniquely made yarn. The wool used in this gathering was grown and sheared in Southern California.
(Tickets must be purchased individually so that each participants signs the waiver digitally)
We look forward to practicing the shared connection to our local materials with you!
Optional add-on: Bring your own item (s)
You are able to bring up to 2 items per person. You can add these to your cart below. Please make sure your garment or fabric is no larger then 20” X 25”, since our pots are not extremely large!
You will need to prepare your garment or fabric by scouring it prior to our gathering. Scouring will remove anything the fabric might have been sealed with and cleanse it.
To scour, simply simmer your item in a large pot on your stovetop with mild dish soap or laundry detergent for about an hour. Try to move your fabric around every 15 minutes or so in order to make sure it’s thoroughly scoured. Once completed, turn off your stove and let cool, then rinse to get as much soap out as possible and hang to dry.
